Patina + Antiquing

The leather used for each Ann Howell Bullard handbag is a beautiful, natural, raw, veg-tanned cowhide. It is completely naked and unfinished, and over time and with use it will become softer and deepen in color.

Mimicking bits of raw canvas left exposed in Impressionist paintings (take a peek the next time you're in a museum!), old record sleeves, and antique heirlooms, this leather was chosen specifically because of the way it reflects stories from life, as it is lived.

Each bag is hand-painted with acrylic ink, which seeps into the surface of the naked leather. No protective glazes are applied so that the bag may develop a beautiful patina. To avoid scratching your bag, take care with rings, bracelets, keys, etc.
